Sola Episode 8 Review

From this episode, Aono’s true character is revealed. It may be easy to just identify her as a bad person.. wait, what am I saying? Man, she is a bad person with all the brain washing for own selfish reasons. She’s evil. Alright, back to the rest of the episode.

Aono did a job on Yorito’s mind, but she obviously didn’t do a complete job as Yorito’s contradicting memories builds up stress on Yorito’s mind. And like a harmful parasite, Aono keeps Yorito in his room and in the process keeps in the dark about everything that’s happening concerning Matsuri.

It’s also good to see that a very minor side character actually plays a role in pushing the story line. Mana’s friend and co-worker Sae happens to take a photo of Matsuri and Mayuko walking together. It didn’t seem like she had the chance to take the image, but whatever.

Matsuri is bearing her guilt with the stab wound that Yorito gave her. She can regenerate her injury, but I guess in a twisted kind of way, it’s the last tangible memory she has of Yorito.

The ironic thing is that with all the effort Takeshi goes through to try to get Matsuri to Mayuko, Mayuko manages to meet Matsuri by herself out of pure chance. And the two already realize that each other are Yakas.

This episode finally reveals that Aono is not a fan of sunlight either, although it was pretty obvious from the first episode. At least Aono has a little more personality in this episode than the previous 7 episodes. But with her face so close to Yorito, is it hinting to the idea that they may not be related to each other, and that Aono’s just a psychotic obsessed lover? But that would be too easy.

The most entertaining part of this episode was when Mana literally slapped some sense into Yorito. That was pretty much the only option left for her at that point to break whatever mind disorienting techniques Aono placed on him.

As the episode winds to a close with Aono going on the attack with paper planes as her weapon of choice (is she going to paper cut Matsuri to death?), the next episode is either going to be very awesome or is going to fizzle out right at the start as Yorito shows up to break the fight, and then sending the rest of the series to the path of finale. Maybe.
