Sola Episode 9 Review

This episode had more action than all the other previous episodes combined. No matter how they glorified they make Aono’s attacks appear, I still can’t shake the notion that she’s attacking with really sharp paper to cause serious, well, paper cut damage.. Anyway, it felt like Matsuri lacked the intent to fight back. She kept staying on the defense and that made things easy on Aono. That, or she’s just too nice. It feels, though, that the two can go toe to toe under the right conditions. Of course, Matsuri is spared because she’s somewhat the main character of the show. She can’t die just yet.

Mana, knowing that Aono is dangerous, hides Yorito at her house for the time being until he can get a grip on his mind. But Aono is persistent enough to show up at Mana’s house. For some reason, that moment gave off a feeling that something bad was going to happen, but nothing did.

Right after the battle with Aono, Matsuri ends up having to fight Takeshi. Again, Matsuri goes on the defense, mainly due to her injury and fatigue. She did give him a kick to the face, but that’s about it. In the end, she’s no match against Takeshi, but she’s spared again, this time by Mayuko. I guess this ends the conflict between Matsuri and Takeshi.

At least this episode gave more insight on the story behind Takeshi and Mayuko. We find out they’re childhood friends. Therefore, the murdered girl Takeshi saw on the floor would be Mayuko, and from that, she became a yaka. We also find out his reason for wanting to kill Matsuri. He somehow needs her blood to turn Mayuko human again. It’s not clear who told Mayuko that she was a Yaka, but I’m somehow driven to believe it was Aono, only because I don’t like the character.
